Flock Safety Live-Feed Camera Trial
In November 2025, the Village of Maple Bluff began a 60-day trial of enhanced Flock Safety camera technology.
The purpose of the trial is to determine whether limited live-feed capability—added to the existing ALPR network installed in April 2023—can further strengthen community safety while preserving privacy and transparency.
What’s Included
- Live-feed cameras added to the seven existing ALPR poles
- New cameras at the Johnson Park playground, Beach Park playground, and Marina (connection pending)
Why We’re Testing It
- Proactive deterrence: Help prevent problems before they arise
- Operational awareness: Support officers who often patrol alone
- Community evaluation: Gather resident and committee feedback before any long-term decision
Privacy and Oversight
- Live-feed access is limited to the Police Department and the Municipal Services Director
- Footage is automatically deleted after 30 days unless retained for an active investigation
- The system does not include facial recognition and cannot identify individuals
- All activity is encrypted, logged, and audited
Community Input
The Police and Parks & Recreation Committees will review the system during the trial, and the Village Board will consider the results and resident feedback early in 2026.
Residents are encouraged to share comments or questions at committee meetings or by emailing tnystrom@villageofmaplebluff.com.
Trial Period: November 2025 – January 2026
The Maple Bluff Police Department is committed to protecting the residents and visitors of our community. Cameras won’t eliminate wrongdoing, however, they’re a valuable tool for gathering vital information during investigations.
